Omer Parent

Un artiste important, tant pour son oeuvre entière que pour la modernité de ses compositions qui marie des éléments végétaux à d'autres éléments géométriques, qui souvent semblent en désaccord créant une ambiguité, qu'il reconnait et dit lui ressembler. Employant une technique proche des publicistes d'une certaine époque, qui se servaient de vaporisation qui permet des dégradés extrêmement fin, tout en mêlant architecture et art graphique, il emprunte la lumière pour nous la rendre métamorphosée. Le tableau qu'on vous présente s'intitule ''L'OISEAU MORT'' acrylique sur papier, marouflé sur panneau, 57 x 82 cm - 22½ x 32¼ po. exposé au Musée National des Beaux arts de Québec du 5 au 29 février 1976, le Musée possède aussi une autre oeuvre de Omer Parent titrée : LAISSE LA FENÊTRE OUVERTE''.

Ami proche de Alfred Pellan, l'oeuvre d'Omer Parent est une oeuvre secrète qui se déploie par périodes et semble sollicitée par les questions du moment. Attentif et perméable aux changements qui s'annonçaient, Omer Parent abordait l'art avec un esprit critique, comme voulant en saisir les enjeux intellectuels. Son éclectisme raffiné et son sens de l'humour, sa curiosité, son plaisir et son intérêt plus marqués pour l'expérience en elle-même, sont peut-être les raisons qui font que les oeuvres semblent tenir dans l'ombre leur auteur. Ce qui ressort après coup, c'est que cette oeuvre témoigne d'une époque, l'époque de la bousculade des avant-gardes qui se sont succédées jusqu'au début des années 1980.

Born in Québec city, studied at l’École des beaux arts de Québec, member of Open-art beginner, reach the École des arts décoratifs de Paris in 1926, on a trip with Alfred Pellan, studied there 2 years and came back to Montréal where he opened a studio for one year 1928-29, became chief decorator for Henry Morgan stores, Montréal, where the hip peoples of that era shopped, established there from 1929 to 1936, start teaching drawing and painting and history of art at l’école des beaux arts de Québec 1939-1949, as his contemporary Lemieux, Pellan ,etc, did, and took direction of that school from 1949 to 1964.

The Musée national des beaux arts of Québec, had a permanent collection of his work exhibed, principaly a artwork called ‘’Laisse la fenêtre ouverte’’ traduction: ‘’Let the windows open’’., great explation of that work in the review name ‘’La vie des arts’’ no 83, summer of 1976, same year the MNBA of Québec held an exposition of Omer Parent, including more than 75 works, including ‘’L’oiseau mort’’ acrylique on paper, on board, doing 57 x 82 cm. (22 ½ x32 ¼ in ) /few years before he was appointed officer of order of Canada.

He is represented at the Canada council Art Bankand, and in many museum of the province of Québec, New Brunswick, Ontario, United states, and the rest of Canada, and some in France and Spain.

A permanent exposition of his works are exhibed at the Pavillon Casault of Laval University, commissioned by Mrs Johane L’Heureux, and Mrs Wagner conservative of the museum, reachable at 418.656.2131. and a catalogue raisonné is in preparation by some poeples interesting on his works, under the direction of Mr. Lauréat Marois, artist painter and student under Parent.

He appears in the Colin Macdonald dictionary of Canadian artist, volume 5 at page 1498. and on the Artists in Canada under the Canadian heritage registry, le ministère des affaires culturelles du Québec published in 1976, a book titled Omer Parent, ISBN 0-7754-2388-2 depicting his artistic activities, hundred of press notes in differents Canadians and foreigns magazines, and the whole content of the 1976 exposition at MNBA appears in that 24 pages booklet . titled Omer Parent.
