Charles Fortin
Charles Fortin est né le 9 avril 1987. Il a grandit à Québec. Il avait une passion pour le dessin étant jeune, mais il se consacre à la guitare durant l'adolescence. Vers 17 ans, il se met à avoir un grand intérêt pour le cinéma et les films d'auteurs tels que Fellini, Bergman ou Jacques Tati. Il s'inscrit en musique au Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy à Saint-Augustin-De-Desmaures en 2005-2006. Il changea pour le programme de cinéma au cégep Garneau où il prit des cours de photographie argentique lorsque son grand-père lui légua son appareil. À cette époque, il commença à s'intéresser à des artistes comme Van Gogh, Francis Bacon, William Blake ou Bruegel. En 2008, il s'inscrit en arts plastiques à l'université Laval ce qui lui permet de renouveller avec le dessin. Il découvre l'auteur de comics Robert Crumb et la nouvelle objectivité allemande, dont Otto Dix auquel il s'intéresse beaucoup. Il vera la grande exposition dédiée à l'artiste en 2010 à Montréal. Il part pour Marseille au début de l'hiver 2011 pour y faire un échange étudiant à l'université des beaux-arts. Il voyage dans toute l'Europe ce qui lui permet d'aller dans beaucoup de musées. Il étudie les techniques anciennes de peinture comme la tempera à l'oeuf. De retour à Québec, il finit son baccalauréat en 2012. Il se lie d'amitié avec le peintre Marius Dubois qui le réfère à la peintre colombienne Janeth Rodriguez qui lui donnera ses premiers cours de peinture à l'huile dans la tradition des peintres néerlandais. Il continua son apprentissage de peinture de manière autodidacte par expérience, et notamment en lisant les bulletins techniques publiés par la National Gallery de Londres.Son intérêt en art se porte sur la condition humaine dans une perspective imaginaire, voir littéraire. Il se voit dans les traces de peintres tels que Bosch ou Grünewald, car il est à la recherche de formes à la stylistique expressive avec l'utilisation des effets visuels de la renaissance du nord. Cependant, il se voit d'avantage comme un artiste moderne. Il vit dans le centre ville de Québec.
Charles Fortin was born on 9 April 1987. He grew up in Quebec city, Canada. He had a passion for drawing when he was young, but he is dedicated to the guitar lessons during his adolescence. At the age of 17, he began to have a great interest in cinema and authors's films such as Fellini, Bergman and Jacques Tati. He studied music at Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy in Saint-Augustin-De-Desmaures in 2005-2006. He changed for the film program at CEGEP Garneau where he took courses in film photography when his grandfather bequeathed his camera. At that time, he became interested in graphics artists like Van Gogh, Francis Bacon, William Blake or Bruegel. In 2008, he start studying fine arts at Laval University which allows him to renew with the drawing. He discovered comic book writer Robert Crumb and the new German objectivity, including Otto Dix which he is very interested. He moved to Marseille in early winter of 2011 to make an exchange student at the University of Fine Arts. He traveled throughout Europe which allows him to go in many museums. He studied ancient painting techniques such as egg tempera. Back in Quebec, he finished his bachelor's degree in 2012. He befriended the painter Marius Dubois R.C.A. who refers him to the Colombian painter Janeth Rodriguez who will give him his first lessons in oil painting in the tradition of Dutch painters. He continued his apprenticeship in painting self-taught from experience, particularly in reading technical bulletins published by the National Gallery in London. His art focus is on the human condition in an imaginary perspective view literary. It shows in the footsteps of artists such as Bosch and Grünewald because he is looking for forms to expressive style with the use of visual effects of the northern renaissance. However, he is seen in our gallery as a modern artist. He lives in downtown Quebec City.
