Rita Rodrigue

Rita Rodrigue (1946-….) Est née à Normétal en Abitibi, dans une famille de 8 enfants. Leurs parents, tendres et attentionnés, les encouragent à s’exprimer et leur donnent la liberté de le faire.

Rita montre très tôt son talent pour le dessin et s’installe à Luskville en Outaouais. Â l’âge de 19 ans, elle est remarquée par Roger Amoroso de l’Ottawa Revue : « Ses sujets sont ‘’ Le cantique des cantiques ‘’. Rita commence à étudier avec Henri Masson et poursuit son apprentissage avec lui durant 4 ans. Elle y apprend la simplification des formes et de la couleur. Ensuite, pendant 12 ans, elle continue sa formation chez Roger Larivière, un ancien élève de Masson.

Elle est mieux connue pour ses aquarelles très créatives. Ses œuvres de 1983 sont picturalement parmi les plus séduisantes des illustrations de l’œuvre de Rita Rodrigue. Le livre Cantique des cantiques est une allégorie des relations existant entre l’amour divin et humain. Ses peintures s’inspirant de ce livre, nous réjouissent par leur beauté, leur passion et leur qualité artisanale.

Sa conception féminine de la nature et ses extravagantes images orientalistes explorent cette nouvelle dimension de son travail. Son œuvre « Le Cantique des Cantiques » est l’objet d’une longue recherche et étude auprès d’un frère Dominicain à Ottawa, suivie d’un travail de 2 années, où se reflète l’amour qu’elle porte aux vivants et à la nature. Loin d’adopter une approche académique, elle utilise le texte comme support de la conscience. Elle respecte le style, l’essence et l’atmosphère du récit. On peut sentir l’économie de formes et de lignes caractéristiques de son maître ainsi que le rythme d’Henri Masson. En outre, il faut souligner une certaine réminiscence des Pré-Raphaélites avec la luxuriance des couleurs et des lisières stylisées. Pourtant, les couleurs restent douces, languides et les formes humaines intégrées dans un monde végétal forment une arabesque érotique et fluide.

Rita Rodrigue ( 1946 - ..... )

Born in Normétal, Abitibi, Québec, she was one in a family of eight. Her parents were sensitive and caring poeple who encouraged theirs childrens to express themselves and gave them freedom to do so.

Early she showed her talent for drawing and later settled down in Luskville. Outaouais, Québec province, and at the age of nineteen Roger amoroso for Ottawa revue, noted : Her subjects is the song of songs, and i can think of no began her studies under henri Masson and continued with him for the next four years. From him she learned to simplify form and color. She next studied with Roger Larivière a former pupil of Masson and others. In all she studied about twelve years. She is best known for her creative watercolors. Viewing her works in 1983 more beguilling pictoral interpretation of this great poem than Rodrigue's graceful representations. It matters little whether viewers think the book is an allegory of the relationship between the divine and the human, or whether the song is simply a poem about the human love : The paintings of Rita Rodrigue - like the song itself - can be enjoyed for their beauty, their passion and their exquisite craftsmanship.... Earlier she had experimented with the female form as outcrop of nature. Now the song, with its repletion of natural images and extravagant orientalisms, inspired her to further explore this new dimension. Ten months went by before she decided to paint '' The song of songs '' . It took her another six months to read, research and understand the book. She sought the advice of a theologian from the Dominican Fathers in Ottawa. .... Workingeight to ten hours a day, it took her two years to complete the series.... In her interprtation there is not a human-centred love, but the love of all living things in nature . Far from adopting an academic approach, the artist has simply allowed the poem to possess her spirit, and to let its language and imagery sink into her consciousness. The style is her own but the essence and atmosphere of the story remains intact....You can see something of Masson's influence in her artist tense economy of line and form and the dancing supplenes of moven and rhythm. Each painting filled to bursting wit images - human, animal and vegetable. The style is vaguely reminicent of the pre-Raphaelite in its luxuriance of color and symbol and in its stylized decorative borders. There is a great deal of colour, but the colours are cool and restful, conveying the grand effect of languid blues, green, violet, and wine. Humans' forms are so subtly integrated into the forms of the natural worldand they make one continuous arabesque of entwining erotic patterns.
