Samuel Borenstein
Samuel Borenstein ( 1908-1969) Né en Pologne, il arrive à Montrèal avec sa famille en 1921. Il travaille avec son père et suit les cours du soir auprès d'Elzéar Soucy, Adam Sheriff Scott et John .Y. Johnstone. Borenstein fréquente les peintres juifs de Montréal, Bercovitch, Muhlstock, Brandter. En 1939, il fait un voyage en France durant lequel il voit les oeuvres de Van Gogh et Soutine qui vont marquer son style pictural. De retour au Canada, il peint les paysages laurentiens avec une vision très expressionniste. Très couru depuis une dizaine d'années par les collectionneurs canadiens.
Born in Poland, he arrived in Montreal with his family in 1921. He works with his father and follows nights courses with Elzéar Soucy, Adam Sheriff Scott and John. Y. Johnstone. Borenstein attends the Jewish painters of Montreal, Bercovitch, Muhlstock, Brandter. In 1939, he goes on a trip in France during which it sees works of Van Gogh and Soutine who will mark his pictorial style. On return to Canada, it paints his lovely laurentians landscapes with a vision very expressionnist. All good collectors want a piece of that painter of the important Jewish school of Montreal.
