Berta N. (Nabersberg) Briggs

La tante que tout le monde aurait aimé visité, dans un monde de collage et de scapbooks, de figurines et d'animaux, elle fut une des premières a enseignée ces formes d'arts, inusitées et révolutionnaires. Elles est née Nabersberg (pour le N. ) à St Paul, Minnesota, et après avoir graduée du central high school, elle déménage à New York pour étudier au Art Students League sous la direction de Kenyon Cox et poursuit au Pratt Institute également au Teachers college de Columbia avec arthur W. Dow. A son retour à St Paul elle dirige le département des travaux d'artisanat à l'école publique et est assigné à la direction de l'école des art et métiers de St Paul pour enseigner à ses élèves la façon d'imprimer sur des blocs de bois, ou sur le cuir, travailler le métal, et la potterie, et durant ces années  elle passe ses étés à se perfectionner à l'écoles des arts de Minneapolis travaillant avec Ernest Batchelder et Berta Lum. De nouveau, elle part pour New York ou elle est directrice de la Charlton school, école privée pour filles, où elle enseigne l'histoire de l'art et de l'architecture et en 1913 elle marie William Harlowe Briggs, éditorialiste pour la maison d'édition Harper bros.  Toute sa vie elle peindra des paysages se spécialisant dans l'étude des oiseaux, Elle s'éteindra à New York le 12 novembre 1976. Berta N. Briggs was born in St Paul on june 5 1884. After her  graduation from Central High school she moed to New york city to study at the Art Students League under keenyon Cox, at the Pratt institute with Raplh Johannot and at the teachers college of Columbia under Arthur W. Dow. Upon her return to St paul she was appointed the first supervisor of handicrafts in the public school,, so far she organized and directed the department of Crafts at the St Paul Institute school of art and taught woodblock printing, leather work, metal work and pottery, annd passed her summers attented at summer school in Minneapolis handicraft guild, working with Ernest Batchelder and Berta Lum. Moved to New York once more and became the head of the art department in Charlton School, private place for girls. where she taught art and lectured on the history of art and architecture, married William Harlowe Briggs, an editorial executive fot Harper Bros publisihing. In 1928 she start painting landscapes and specialized in painting birds, she was a writer (two books), scrapbooker, and member of many artists female associations, she died in N.Y. november 12, 1976.
